The original South Coast Shipyard that was established in 1933.
During World War II, the yard received Naval contracts to build 135’ mine sweepers, 110’ sub-chasers and 63’ ASRV (air sea rescue vessels) along with several smaller type vessels.
During the war years South Coast Shipyard employed over 1,000 full time employees.
In 1964 there were 19 shipyards operating in Newport Beach.
Today there are only five.
Pete Stewart took ownership of the yard in 1979 and today, almost 40 years later, oversees the entire operation, working hand-in-hand with his son’s Joey and Ben.
